About the time I started working with Wolfgang on reincarnating the life style COT.FM, we were approached by Markus Archelio of Appel Publishing who offered to give us royalty free access to his unreleased biography on the life of Jimmy Ibeaner.
To my surprise, Wolfgang himself had a relative who worked closely with Mr Ibeaner during his time at a local fish and chip store. We interviewed this relative extensively and studied all documentation relating to Mr Ibeaner for over a year before even speaking of turning it into a profitable musical project.
When the time came to record, myself and Wolfgang had such a high level of respect and knowledge of Mr Ibeaner, the songs came almost supernaturally with ferocious viscosity!
I had suggested we use my high tech recording system and world class studio but Wolfgang was adamant that we should record the entire project with just one instrument and a single track recorder. We both knew it was the right decision and best way to pay homage to such an amazing life!
So for several years we would meet up at the milk bar everyday after junior high, slurp a smoothy, discuss the next part of the epic and record it in my bedroom.
By the time we had composed and recorded Jimmy's life right up to his death and after life, we had clocked up a good 3+ hours of material, none of which would be scrapped.
Here is a small sample of the album The Life & Times Of Jimmy Ibeaner. It features Wolfgang, myself, Kevin DJ Smith, Bob Kennedy, Cassy Lea, P Puff & Sarah Juice.
SUPER FACT:
I Knew All This Time I Love You was the only track that required multiple takes. This was due to Wolfgang breaking down in tears every time Sarah started singing. We eventually tied Wolfgang up and Sarah could record the classic performance that you hear.
