It wasn't long until I grew weary of my terrible guitar sound. I convinced my investors to purchase a Line6 Podxt for my studio which was destined to return a high profit! Christmas 2004 came along and I received my new production tool with pure glee!
Suddenly I was able to record guitar parts that sounded better than most studios around Australia. Things were looking good!
At the age of 16 I devised a plan that would allow me to quit school and join the rich and famous in their lifestyles of luxury... yes, in late 2004 I began working on my first full length album!
One of the first tracks to be recorded for the album and still one of my favourites to this day is Dr Winklebutt's Encounter With Real Life Aliens. It would later become part II of a Dr Winklebutt's Encounter trilogy.
The song is narrated by Dr Winklebutt as he describes his wild alien encounter and abduction. The aliens also make a vocal appearance. The vocals are processed live through the Pod using the cheap microphone also used for the vocals in Masters of Phunk.
The entire song is recorded using the POD and consists of midi percussion, guitar and vocals. There are many layers of guitars focusing on interesting sounds rather than melody while the song constantly shifts with no two parts the same.
SUPER FACTS:
The "room full of fluffy toys" ending is played using a textar/pen.
Like many of my songs, the percussion and drums were written first.
Back before there were any midi to wav converting programs I had to play the midi tracks while feeding the audio into my Pod and record it as a wav file. The effects added to these midi tracks were all performed live during the recording.
